There is a certain alchemy that drives people to wed, don’t you think? 

It’s not just love - because, if we’re lucky, we’ve been in love before. It’s not just physical attraction. It’s not just the practicality of spending your days with someone who just feels right.

Benny and Selena have found that there is something more to it than that...with each other.

How can I summarize what I notice between their charts? Put simply, we seek what we lack. We seek what we cannot give ourselves.

I think the saying is, “We attract not what we want, but who we are."

Unfortunately, like most people with the Sun square Moon aspect, Selena may attract (and subconsciously create) one mini-crisis after another, externalizing her pain and dis-ease because it is too much to hold.

The upside to having Sun square Moon is that you are resilient as hell; you think nothing of grabbing the dragon’s tail of your inner turmoil and doing your damndest to vanquish it - especially if you have Moon in Aries. You will live to tell the tale of your ferocity. Rinse and repeat. The cycle continues.

You see, you will never really conquer the internal war that comes with the Sun square Moon aspect. Its energies demand to be dealt with continually.

Anyway, back to Selena. Her Sun and Moon are in cardinal signs (Cancer and Aries, respectively). Because this square involves cardinal signs, there is an inherent restlessness to her.

Selena’s Cancer Sun is looking for the softest place to land, sidewalking tentatively (deliberately) along quiet stretches of beach, while her Aries Moon left the shore hours ago, impulsively diving head first into the cold dark water, eager for the next adventure. 

The dilemma for Sun in Cancer square Moon in Aries might feel something like this: 

Self-Protection (Cancer Sun) or Self-Assertion (Aries Moon)? 

Nostalgia (Cancer Sun) or New Experiences (Aries Moon)?

Sarcasm (Cancer Sun) or Selfishness (Aries Moon)? 

Quiet (Cancer Sun) or Outspoken (Aries Moon)?

Brooding (Cancer Sun) or Aggressive (Aries Moon)?

Empathic (Cancer Sun) or Extroverted (Aries Moon)?

The answer for Selena is BOTH AND.

So, there we have Selena’s core dilemma in a nutshell. 

A few extra astro notes on Sel: She is gorgeous (Venus conjunct Ascendant). She is charming (Mercury conjunct Venus). She is always ready for a chat (Mercury conjunct Ascendant). She is persistent (Mars in Taurus). She can be all-or-nothing when it comes to what she wants (Mars opposite Pluto).

But, what of Benny? Again, of course, astrology comes through waving a white flag of safety and surrender. It's ok to lay down your arms, Selena. Here is a soft place to land. Here is a new adventure. Here is Benny.

Bennie’s Sun in Pisces is TRINE his Moon in Scorpio.

We attract what we lack and Selena is no exception.

We’ve seen this play out SO. MANY. TIMES. 

You love to go out. Your partner loves to stay at home, watching the TRAVEL channel in the dark.

My partner loves outdoor anything. I will always and forever be in the apres ski hut with a hot beverage.

She loves reading. He can only listen to audio books. 

And so it goes.

Back to Benny, though.

It’s not for nothing that the trine is the most brilliant aspect in astrology. 

The trine is luck. The trine is opportunity. The trine is effortless.

Benny's Sun in Pisces trining his Moon in Scorpio gives him a palpable sense of ease. The world could be falling apart and people with Sun trine their Moon - because they have this deep wellspring of balance within themselves - can easily rely on their intuition and wisdom to guide them through dark, challenging times. 

Simply put, people with Sun trine Moon are contentment personified. 

What's it like for a person with Sun square Moon to meet and fall in love with someone who has a Sun trine Moon? 

It probably feels like a revelation.

Having Sun Trine Moon in water signs (Pisces/Scorpio), makes Benny a masterful nurturer. He really gets the complexities of the human psyche, which is such a gift for someone as complicated as Selena.

Benny is sensitive enough to attune to her emotions in a profound way. He also models the security and comfort within oneself that Sun square Moon people so desperately want but that always seems to slip through their fingers.  

Benny has his complexities too.

First, he really needs deep, meaningful relationships to feel fulfilled. Not only is his Sun/Moon trine in water signs, but his Moon is in Scorpio, which is all about cutting through the fakery and getting to the nitty gritty of who you are and what you're here for.

These are all questions that swirl through Benny’s mind. He is a little paranoid you will rip him off emotionally, like all people with Moon in Scorpio. 

People with Moon in Scorpio will test you. They will put you through your paces to make sure you’re trustworthy. Benny’s Moon in Scorpio conjunct Pluto doubles down on this energy. To be emotionally fulfilled, he requires all or nothing. When Benny is in, he is ALL THE WAY in. And you should be too.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any Sun/Moon aspects in their astrological synastry chart showing me a core emotional or romantic connection.

What I do see is friendship, good vibes, and a commonality in thinking, values, and creative tastes (composite Sun conjunct Mercury - OF COURSE they made an album together).

Selena’s Moon is conjunct Benny’s Venus (they share lots in common, have endless support for each other, anything they do together is joy-filled)

Selena’s Moon is conjunct Benny’s Jupiter (Benny amplifies Selena’s emotions - for better or worse; he is a trusted teacher, they are a “lucky” team that can sometimes veer into blind optimism).

Ultimately, I see Selena and Benny as best friends who make up for what the other lacks in so many ways. They mirror what the other is searching for within themselves.

That’s as strong a place as any to start.
